Following his padma shri Award victory, the former BRS government, led by KCR, approved a monthly remuneration of Rs. 10,000 and handed a gift of Rs. 1 crore. According to reports, Komuraiah purchased a plot of property in Turkayamjal, close to Hyderabad, using the one crore he received as payment for his sons' weddings. After paying off his obligations, he began construction on a home. But he had to stop it in the middle because he was out of money. According to Komuraiah, one of his boys experiences seizures. The monthly cost of his boys' and his medications comes to Rs. 7000. They also have to go through required routine health examinations.

Komuraiah claimed that it has been difficult for him to live since his monthly honorarium was stopped a few months ago. He was forced to labour as a daily wage labourer at a Turkayamanjal building site due to his severe financial situation. Former minister KT Rama Rao saw the footage showing him labouring at the building site after they went popular on social media. ktr pledged to look for Mogulaiah and his family after seeing Komuraiah's predicament.
