Mukhtar Ansari, a notorious gangster-turned-politician, was laid to rest on saturday (March 30) after his demise on thursday (March 28) while incarcerated at Banda jail in Uttar Pradesh. The post mortem report conducted by a panel of five doctors on friday (March 29) attributed his death to a heart attack, citing the presence of a yellow area in his heart indicative of a possible clot.

However, Ansari's family members contend that he was murdered through strangulation, despite the medical findings suggesting otherwise. According to jail records, Ansari suffered from various health issues including heart disease, depression, skin allergy, and diabetes. He was serving time in Banda jail for multiple convictions, including murder.

On the day of his death, Ansari was discovered unconscious in his high-security cell and subsequently transferred to rani Durgavati Medical College, where he passed away. Before his demise, Ansari's lawyer had filed a complaint in the Barabanki court alleging poisoning on march 19. Despite the post-mortem results confirming a heart attack as the cause of death, his family remains steadfast in their belief that he was murdered.

Ansari's brother, afzal ansari, asserted that his brother had confided in him during a brief meeting that he had been poisoned, alleging a larger conspiracy orchestrated by the government and its machinery. afzal ansari recounted his interaction with Mukhtar, claiming that he had expressed being poisoned and in immense pain before losing consciousness.

The hospital's official statement noted Ansari's arrival at around 8:25 pm on thursday, where he received treatment from a team of nine doctors before succumbing to his condition. In response to the conflicting claims surrounding Ansari's death, a three-member team has been appointed to conduct a magisterial inquiry, with the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Banda overseeing the judicial investigation.

Ansari's tumultuous legal history includes convictions for the murder of bjp mla Krishnanand Rai and a recent life sentence for obtaining an arms license through forged documents in the 1990s.
