Why does a foreign wind blow on these 3 seats of punjab, whose magic will work? Understand the caste equation

Six phases of voting have been completed for the lok sabha elections. Votes will be cast in the seventh and last phase on june 1. elections will be held on 13 seats of Punjab. These also include nri seats of Gurdaspur, jalandhar and Hoshiarpur. These seats are called nri because most of the people here live abroad and decide from there which way the political wind will blow.

This time these seats will be a tough test for the political parties. Because bjp is contesting the elections alone this time, while this is the first time for aam aadmi party, which reached parliament through punjab in 2014. congress and Akali Dal are also busy finding their ground again. The election has become interesting due to the four parties being in different fields.

If we look at the caste equations, then the Dalit community dominates the Hoshiarpur and jalandhar lok sabha seats. Both these seats are reserved for the Dalit community. While the Gurdaspur seat comes in the Manjha area of Punjab. Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur are considered to be the traditional seats of BJP. On the other hand, jalandhar seat has been occupied by Congress.

Gurdaspur

A total of 9 assembly constituencies come under Gurdaspur lok sabha constituency. Of these, six are in Gurdaspur and three in Pathankot district. Last time, bjp candidate sunny deol won this seat by 5 lakh 58 thousand 719 votes. But this time bjp has fielded Dinesh Singh Babbu in his place. aam aadmi party has expressed confidence in Aman Sher Singh Sherry Kalsi, congress in Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Akali Dal in Jaljit Singh Cheema. In the 2019 lok sabha elections, there were a total of 15,95,284 voters on this seat.

Jalandhar

Jalandhar lok sabha seat of punjab has been a stronghold of Congress. In 1998, the 12th prime minister of the country inder kumar Gujral won the election on this seat and reached Parliament. After him, congress waved the flag of victory in 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019. Despite the Modi wave in 2014 and 2019, santosh kumar Chaudhary of congress was elected mp from this seat. But he died of a heart attack in 2023, after which Rinku of aam aadmi party won the by-election.

This time congress has fielded Dalit leader and former chief minister of the state Charanjit Singh Channi from Jalandhar. At the same time, current mp Sushil Kumar Rinku is contesting from Aam Aadmi Party. There are a total of 16.54 lakh voters in jalandhar constituency, of which about 37 percent population is from Scheduled Caste. This seat has 9 Vidhan Sabha constituencies. These include Kartarpur, jalandhar West, jalandhar Central, jalandhar North, jalandhar Cantt, Phillaur, Adampur Nakodar and Shahkot.

Hoshiarpur

Hoshiarpur seat is also reserved for Scheduled Castes. Former punjab chief minister Giani Zail Singh and BSP founder Kanshiram have been MPs from this seat. Dalit voters may dominate this seat. But it is the Hindu voters who decide the victory or defeat. Hoshiarpur, Dasuya, Phagwara, Mukerian are towns where there is a large Hindu population. This seat is also considered to be nri dominated, because most of the people of this region live in Canada, Britain, America.

BJP won the Hoshiarpur seat for the first time in 1998. After that, there has been a trend of congress winning once and bjp winning once. But this trend was broken in the Modi wave and bjp won bumper victories in 2014 and 2019. This time bjp has given ticket to Anita Somprakash, who is the wife of current mp Somprakash. congress has fielded yamini Gomar, AAP has fielded Dr. Rachkumar Chabbewal and Akali Dal has fielded former minister Sohan Singh Thandal.
