When and why was PM Kisan Nidhi Yojana started?

Reportedly the government has updated the latest figures of the 12th installment online. According to this, installments were sent to 8.42 crore indian farmers under PM Kisan Samman nidhi Yojana. However, the maximum benefit from this in the last installment was 10.45 crore farmers. According to the government data of the 12th installment, 1.79 crore farmers of Uttar Pradesh benefited the most. After this, maximum farmers of Maharashtra, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, rajasthan and gujarat benefited. More than one million farmers are benefiting in 15 out of 36 states and union territories.

Meanwhile PM Kisan Samman nidhi Yojana was started before the lok sabha elections 2019. Union minister Piyush Goyal had announced this while presenting the interim budget of the government on 1 february 2019. Then a budget of Rs 20 thousand crore was allocated for the scheme. After this, on february 24, PM Modi had announced to transfer the first installment of the scheme to more than one crore farmers in Gorakhpur, UP. This scheme has been very popular since the beginning. This scheme was started with the aim of benefiting small and marginal farmers.

Perhaps steps taken for the betterment of farmers have always been a matter of political discussion. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme is one of them, which garnered a lot of discussion before the elections after its implementation in 2019. In the CSDS survey conducted after the 2019 lok sabha elections, it was asked that what was the most important issue for you while voting? Then 1.2 percent people said that they voted on farmers and their problems. Apart from this, another question – Have you or anyone in the family taken advantage of any government scheme related to farmers' income in the last five years? Then 13.4 percent people answered yes.
