Why there is delayreleasingfinal data on voting percentage?

The election commission said in its reply, thatthe Commission has created a 'Voter Turnout App' for the convenience of the general public. This app provides you with real-time voting data.

Voters can check turnout on the app every two hours (9:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm) on the polling day. The new figures are updated as soon as the reports are received from the polling booth between 7 pm and 12 midnight. After voting, the Returning Officer examines the documents in the presence of all the candidates or their representatives. After this, the voting percentage data is updated on the app. This work may take P+1 or P+2 days. It depends on the number of constituencies and the arrival schedule of polling parties.

Repolling takes place in some constituencies, for which the data in the app is updated later. This usually happens after the completion of polling and the arrival of polling parties (usually P+4 days). The data released on the website on april 30, 2024, was already showing on the ‘Voter Turnout App’. Therefore, it cannot be called a delay. ‘Voter Turnout App’ ensures timely updating of data.

Doesn't every candidate get information about the voting percentage of his area?

According to the rules of the election commission, every political party and candidate knows how many voters there are in their area. This information is available only during the preparations for the elections. Information about how many voters there are at each polling station is also given. Also, after completion of voting, the total votes cast in EVMs are matched with Form 17C in the presence of the candidates or their agents. The election commission further said we are not legally bound to publish voter turnout data after any election as voter data is recorded in Form 17C at the polling station level. After voting, it is signed by the presiding officer and representatives of the candidates. After this, a copy of Form 17C is also given to every polling agent. In such a situation, before the election commission, every candidate knows how much voting took place at which polling booth in his area. That means there is no scope for any error.
