Election season is going on. A barrage of allegations and counter-allegations is going on. Unemployment is also an election issue. There is often an uproar about the lack of employment in the country, while the government figures seem to tell a more interesting story. According to the National Career service (NCS) portal of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, vacancies were created for more than one crore jobs in the financial year 2023-24. According to the portal, the candidates were not selected as per the number of jobs available.

According to the NCS portal, in the financial year 2023-2024, 87,27,900 lakh people had applied for jobs on the portal, while the job vacancy was 1,09,24,161 crore. This figure had increased significantly compared to last year. There were 8,28,002 active employees in the financial year 2022-23. 34,81,944 vacancies were sought by the companies, whereas against the demand, 57,20,748 people were shortlisted by the companies from the applications. In comparison, in the financial year 2023-2024, there were 1,09,24,161 jobs with an increase of 214 percent. Against that, only 87,27,900 were shortlisted. That is, fewer applications were received in comparison to the number of jobs available, due to which the entire job seat could not be filled. According to NCS portal, this year 214 percent more jobs were created as compared to last year. In comparison to the last financial year, there has been an increase of about 53 percent in the number of people taking jobs during the same period.

Job in private instead of government

Jobs are not coming in government sectors. Due to this, there is some resentment among the youth, but private companies are giving vacancies openly. An example of that has been the financial year 2023- 2024. This is election year. After the election period, there is more expectation of job vacancies in private companies. The financial year 2024-25 has started. This increase in the number of jobs can also be expected due to the boom in the economy. It is fully expected that such momentum will continue this financial year also. Maximum vacancy of 46,68,845 jobs came in finance and insurance sector. Vacancies were brought for other sectors including 6,89,446 in Manufacturing, 4,93,750 in IT and Communication, 14,46,404 in Operations and Support. Whereas in the financial year 2022-23, there were 19,98,196 vacancies in the finance and insurance sector.
