Nara resigned from the post of president of the party's media cell in assam on sunday (24 March).

Nara's resignation a day after his wife and former Union minister rani Nara was not given the party ticket from Lakhimpur lok sabha constituency. congress has made uday Shankar Hazarika its candidate for this seat.

Hazarika left the bharatiya janata party (BJP) a few months ago and joined the Congress. party sources said that rani Nara and Hazarika were in a close contest for the candidature from Lakhimpur. rani has been a three-time mp from Lakhimpur and has also been a rajya sabha member.

The congress candidate for the Lakhimpur seat was announced on Saturday, while the party's candidates for 12 other seats in the state were announced on march 12. Of the 14 lok sabha seats in assam, congress is contesting on 13 and is supporting the assam Jatiya Parishad candidate in one constituency. In the outgoing lok sabha, congress has three MPs from the state, while bjp has nine MPs and one seat is held by AIUDF (All india United Democratic Front) and one independent.
