While anil sharma was in the bharatiya janata party, his son Ashray Sharma contested the elections on congress ticket in the year 2019. Although Ashray Sharma did not win the election, anil sharma did not come to the ground to campaign for bjp during the entire election. In the year 2019, anil sharma resigned as Energy minister, but he remained a bjp MLA. While being a bjp mla, he continuously gave statements against bjp from 2019 to 2022, but in the end he won the 2022 assembly elections by contesting on a bjp ticket.
