Uttarakhand's UCC is in accordance with the Constitution

uttarakhand has become the first state in the country where Uniform Civil Code has been introduced. Last tuesday i.e. on 6th February, uttarakhand Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami tabled it in the House, it will become a law in a few days. Although there is opposition to this bill, support is also being received from some sections. The biggest issue in this is that if you are living in a live-in relationship then you will have to report, otherwise legal action can be taken against you. There is a lot of noise regarding this. Along with this, it is also being opposed by a large section of the society, Muslims, because it is not according to their Shariat. Muslim leaders have given a statement that they will oppose it legally.

Ambitious and necessary legislation

Uniform Civil Code is a very ambitious law. Because india is a country where people of every nation, every caste, every religion live. Every country, every caste, every religion has its own public code. Muslims have their own personal code for marriage, Hindus have a separate code. There are many religions and castes which have their own personal codes, which are known as personal laws. So, there is a need to codify all these. As far as live-in relationship is concerned, the supreme court had given permission in 2018 that you can live together without marriage. But this is only a permission to live together, they have no right. No rights can be claimed over it. If someone is being tortured in such a relationship then it comes under the ambit of domestic violence law. If seen this way, live-in relationship is a right to live together physically, there is nothing more than that. There is no doubt that the concept of live-in relationship is against the civilization and culture of India. Even though the supreme court has allowed this, it is against the tradition and religious viewpoint of India.
