Prime minister Narendra Modi is on a tour of 5 countries these days.During this tour of PM Modi, the Caribbean country Trinidad and Tobago has supported India's permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

PM Modi on friday (July 4) signed 6 agreements with his counterpart Kamala prasad Bissessar to increase cooperation in many areas including infrastructure and medicine.During this, the two leaders discussed possible cooperation in areas like agriculture, healthcare and digital transformation, UPI and people-to-people contact.

Trinidad and Tobago gave support

In a joint statement issued on Saturday, it was said that Trinidad and Tobago have confirmed their full support to India for permanent membership in the expanded United Nations Security Council.The statement said that acknowledging the increasing geopolitical tensions and global conflicts, the two leaders suggested a way forward through dialogue and diplomacy.

India has supported Trinidad and Tobago's candidature for the temporary seat in the United Nations Security Council for 2027-28. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the Prime Minister's historic visit to Trinidad and Tobago has given a boost to the special relations between the two countries.

Consensus reached on the countries of the Global South

The Ministry of External Affairs said that PM Modi and Bissessar have agreed to work together for greater solidarity among the countries of the Global South and strengthen the India-CARICOM partnership. CARICOM (Caribbean Community) is a regional political and economic union of 15 nations and 5 associate members.

PM Modi arrived in Port of spain on Thursday in the second leg of his 5-nation visit. This is the first bilateral visit of an indian Prime minister to Trinidad and Tobago since 1999.
