Indian cricket team's "incredible" triumph in the t20 world cup and their first-ever trophy lift after 17 years were praised by US ambassador to india, Eric Garcetti. "Whoa, amazing victory! Garcetti tweeted, "Congratulations #TeamIndia #MenInBlue! #T20WorldCup."

In a battle that went right down to the wire, the 'Men in Blue' overcame south africa on saturday at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. After winning the toss and electing to bat, india amassed 176/7, driven by crucial contributions from Axar patel (47), shivam dube (27), and a brilliant game from virat kohli (76), after South African bowlers had run amok early in the session.

South Africa lost two wickets in the first over of their 177-run chase, but quinton de kock and Tristan Stubbs put indian spinners kuldeep yadav, ravindra Jadeja, and Axar patel to task. Before being removed by hardik pandya, Heinrich Klassen, who amassed a quick 52, threatened to once more shatter the hearts of millions of indian supporters.

Lead by Jasprit Bumrah, indian bowlers choked south africa in the final four overs of the game. The Proteas' last hope for defeat came when David Miller was removed following a spectacular, heart-stopping catch made by suryakumar yadav close to the boundary line. The 'Men in Blue' went on to win by a margin of seven runs.

After winning the first t20 world cup in 2007, this was India's second world cup victory. Additionally, Team india had not won a significant ICC championship in 11 years, with the Champions Trophy coming in 2013.

During the t20 world cup, the USA cricket team made headlines with their historic performance. They first defeated Canada, then shocked pakistan and gave india a serious match during the group stages. They made history by qualifying for the Super 8s when their match versus ireland was rained out.

The USA, however, lost to south africa, the West Indies, and england in the Super 8, failing to duplicate its previous triumph. But after earning a Super 8 berth, the squad was automatically qualified for the 2026 t20 World Cup.
