EB Bills in Telangana CAN'T BE PAID in Google Pay, Phone Pe, PayTM or Other apps

SIBY JEYYA
On Monday, July 1, telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) declared that as of today, all mobile payment services—PhonePe, google Pay, and PayTM—have stopped accepting payments for telangana energy bills. According to the power agency, residents may only pay their electricity bills using the TGSPDCL mobile app or official website. It is important to remember that iphone users cannot download the app.

“As per the RBI directions, PhonePe, Paytm, amazon Pay, google Pay, and Banks have stopped accepting the electricity bills of TGSPDCL w.e.f. 01/07/2024,” the power department said in a post on X. Additionally, users can still make payments using UPI apps, however, it can only be accessed via the website or app.

The only population in the city that pays their power bills via third-party applications is probably going to be impacted. To pay their bills, the majority of residents in the state still go to Meeseva centers. This announcement coincides with controversy over rumors that the adani Group will be handling bill payments and electricity distribution in Hyderabad's Old City on behalf of the telangana government. This has stoked the argument even more.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders have responded sharply to the congress party's privatization of power, challenging the party's stance on the gautam Adani-led adani Group. As a trial project, the chief minister proposed giving the gautam Adani-led company control over the Old City district. He justified the aforementioned decision by pointing to customer nonpayment of bills and attacks on energy service members when they attempt to recover overdue payments.

Reddy went on to say that the adani Group will be given control over electricity distribution in hyderabad and eventually the whole state following the completion of the Old City pilot project.
