In a significant gathering ahead of the new government formation, prime minister Narendra Modi held a crucial meeting with his ministers-to-be. In this meeting, prominent bjp veterans such as amit shah, rajnath singh, and nitin gadkari were seated in the front row, underscoring their continued importance in the administration. amit shah is expected to retain his role as home minister, rajnath singh will likely continue as Defence minister, and nitin gadkari is anticipated to remain in charge of Roads and Highways.
Additionally, nirmala sitharaman and Dr. S Jaishankar, both rajya sabha members, are expected to retain their positions as Finance minister and External Affairs minister, respectively.
A notable difference in this third term of prime minister Modi's government is the BJP's reduced numbers in the Lok Sabha, which have fallen below the majority mark. As a result, the bjp now relies more heavily on its nda allies to achieve the necessary majority. This reliance has necessitated accommodating these allies in the council of ministers.
In line with this strategy, N Chandrababu Naidu's telugu desam party (TDP) and Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) (JDU) are expected to receive at least one cabinet berth and one minister of State post each. These decisions were made following an extensive 11-hour meeting at the Prime Minister's residence, attended by key leaders including amit shah, bjp chief JP Nadda, and the party's national general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh.
Prime minister Modi is set to take the oath of office at 7:15 pm today, marking the beginning of his third term and the official start of his new cabinet's tenure. The presence of nda allies in significant ministerial positions highlights the coalition's collaborative approach and the strategic adjustments necessitated by the current parliamentary dynamics.
