Telangana - Egg prices in Hyderabad burn a hole in pocket

G GOWTHAM
Eating your preferred omelette will get more expensive as the cost of eggs in the city continues to rise. In comparison to previous summer, the cost of these protein orbs has increased due to a scarcity in Hyderabad. On May 4 of last year, the price per 100 units of eggs was Rs 420; this year, it is Rs 445. Experts in the market blame rising temperatures and increased rates of chicken death for this.

Egg costs have been increasing over the past month, albeit very gradually. Additionally, there was a 70-paisa increase in the cost per unit between april 5 and May 4. On april 5, if an egg cost Rs 4.35, it would have cost Rs 5.25 on May 5, the following month.

The price of a single egg has increased everyday in May, though, with the price reaching Rs 5.25 on May 5 after it had only been at Rs 4.25 for the previous five days. Additionally, considering the summertime heat, be ready to burn a hole in your purse if you want your eggs brought home—the cost of six units on delivery platforms is around Rs 70.

"The market price per 100 units has gone up by about Rs 95 in the previous four days. The reason for this is that the summer heat has caused a decrease in productivity. Abdul Raoos, a third-generation egg vendor in the city, said that last year's rains in several areas of the nation kept the rates low.

April saw a gradual increase in costs, which on april 16 reached Rs 400. It cost Rs 410 within the next two days. On april 21, however, there was a 20 rupee decrease in pricing, making it Rs 390.
