US to send 2,000 bombs to Israel amid worries over possible Rafah assault: Report

G GOWTHAM
Despite US worries about an expected Israeli military onslaught in Gaza's Rafah, the Joe Biden administration approved the shipment of additional bombs and fighter planes costing billions of dollars to Israel.

According to The Washington Post, the new armament shipments include 25 F-35s that were originally approved as part of a bigger package by the US congress in 2008, as well as more than 1,800 MK84 2,000-pound bombs and 500 MK82 500-pound bombs. Notably, the US provides israel, a longstanding friend, with $3.8 billion in military aid each year.

The shipments of armaments elicited no response from the White House. Additionally, the Israeli embassy in Washington remained silent on the subject.

The cargo was delivered amid a backdrop of worldwide censure of israel for its lethal Gaza Strip war, which was launched in retaliation for a Hamas attack on southern israel on october 7, of last year. The Palestinian health Ministry reports that over 32,000 individuals have passed away in Gaza to far.

Additionally, the event occurred after israel angrily said that Washington had "abandoned its policy in the UN today" in response to the US's decision on march 25 to abstain from voting on a resolution urging an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

President Joe Biden has been urged to stop US military funding to israel by certain Democratic party members.

Biden acknowledged on friday "the pain being felt" by many Arab Americans due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the US's backing of Israel's military onslaught, which has left anti-war activists, Muslims, and Arabs feeling betrayed and enraged.
