Telangana Hyderabad - Tree near Lulu Mall translocated despite high risk during summer

A massive neem tree beside the kukatpally pathway leading to Lulu Mall was moved despite protests from environmentalists and specialists. Although translocation is a legitimate conservation strategy, experts are unsure about the exercise's timing considering that hyderabad is currently experiencing daily highs of about 44 degrees Celsius.

The tree, which is estimated to be five years old, spontaneously sprung up next to the path at Lulu Mall. Despite not causing significant traffic issues on the road, the mall management and local authorities relocated it to a neighboring ghmc park. According to uday Krishna, co-founder of the VATA Foundation, summers are not the best season for tree transplants because trees only survive 5% of the time under such circumstances.

"I instructed them quite plainly not to move the tree just yet. He expressed doubt about the effectiveness of the translocation procedure, saying, "It should have been moved after the first two rains in the monsoon, but they did it anyway with urgency." The event highlights the indifference businesses have for trees that impede their growth, even though Lulu Mall is rumoured to have pledged to care for the tree for a year.

Uday goes on to say that the ghmc is not doing enough to preserve the green space in other parts of the city. But a senior ghmc UBD official in the region claims that on sunday night, the tree was transported carefully under the guidance of professionals.

"There, the road is being widened due to the heavy traffic during peak hours and the higher weekend foot traffic at the mall." We had to relocate it because they (mall management) have all the necessary permits from the traffic department and ghmc, the official stated.
