World hindi Day:  PM Modi's efforts to promote the language!!!

 

One of the most extensively spoken languages worldwide, as well as in india, is Hindi. vishwa Hindi Diwas, also known as World hindi Day, is observed on january 10. Dr. manmohan Singh, the prime minister at the time, made the initial observation in 2006. After prime minister Narendra Modi assumed office in 2014, the government made great efforts to promote hindi, the official language of the indian government, both domestically and internationally.

Let's examine the occasions when the Modi administration introduced hindi to the international scene.


Addresses by PM Modi at the UN

Following his first election to office in 2014, prime minister Narendra Modi spoke in hindi before the United Nations General assembly in september of that year and again in 2015, ushering in a new era in the use of hindi on international fora such as the UN.

Sushma Swaraj, the indian minister of external affairs, spoke in hindi before the UN General assembly in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Regarding the issue of terrorism, she had targeted pakistan, claiming that while india is fighting poverty, its neighbor pakistan seemed to be fighting New Delhi. 

2019 saw PM Modi deliver a hindi speech at the Climate Action Summit during the 74th UNGA session. He made another attempt to put hindi on the international map in 2020 and 2021 by addressing the UNGA in his mother tongue.

He presided over the august 2021 UNSC high-level open debate on enhancing maritime security, which he spoke in Hindi. This was the first time the UN Security Council would be chaired by an indian prime minister.

Speaking hindi before donald trump at "Howdy Modi"

When PM Modi visited the US in september 2019, he spoke in hindi to a sizable gathering of indian diaspora people at an event called "Howdy Modi." Notably, US President donald trump was present at the ceremony as well.

Hindi during the 2023 G20 Summit in New Delhi

Last year, the G20 Summit was held in New Delhi, india, and was attended by a number of international dignitaries, including US President Joe Biden. During the opening ceremony, PM Modi spoke in Hindi.
