Concerns Over Taj Mahal: Water Leakage in Main Dome Following Heavy Rain
Recent heavy rainfall in agra has led to reports of water leakage in the main dome of the taj mahal, raising concerns about potential damage to the iconic monument.An official had initially suspected a hairline crack when moisture was noticed on the dome. In response, the Archaeological survey of india (ASI), responsible for maintaining historical monuments, has increased surveillance of the site.
ASI Reports No Damage
The ASI has reassured the public that there has been no damage to the Taj Mahal. The leakage is attributed to seepage rather than structural damage. Rajkumar Patel, Superintending Chief of the ASI agra circle, stated to PTI, “We have observed the leakage in the main dome, but after inspection, we confirmed it is due to seepage and not damage. We conducted checks using a drone camera.”
Local Concerns and Impact
Monika Sharma, a local government-approved tour guide, emphadata-sized the importance of preserving the taj mahal, noting its significance to both agra and the nation. “Proper care is essential because the tourism industry relies heavily on this monument,” she remarked.
Flooding in taj mahal Garden
Earlier this week, heavy rainfall also caused flooding in a garden within the taj mahal grounds. A video of the inundated garden circulated on social media, drawing attention from tourists. Shakeel Rafiq, another tour guide, explained that the garden near the central tank was submerged due to the rain, which surprised visitors.
Widespread Waterlogging in Agra
agra and its surroundings have been severely affected by the rainfall, with main roads flooded and rainwater entering homes. The situation has led to waterlogging across the city, affecting crops and leading to the closure of schools. The agra Nagar Nigam has set up a helpline for waterlogging complaints.
The Meteorological Department recorded 151 mm of rain in agra on Thursday, marking the highest rainfall in the area in the past 80 years.
