Why no BJP candidate has filed nomination in Pathanamthitta, where Sabarimala Is Located?

BJP released the first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Kerala. Out of 14 candidates, BJP revealed 13 candidate names and one notable absence was for the candidate seat of Pathanamthitta, the district where the Sabarimala temple is located.



Reports claim there is some dispute within the party over the candidates for this particular district. But BJP head, PS Sreedharan Pillai said, "There is no dispute over the candidates. We just never revealed as it would be subjected to last-minute changes."


Of the 20 Lok Sabha seats in Kerala, BJP will contest in 14 seats and BDJS in 5 and the Kerala Congress One. BJP has never won a Lok Sabha seat from Kerala is now pinning high hopes that the Sabarimala issue can get them a huge number of Hindu votes. As per reports, Hindus are a dominant community in Pathanamthitta at 55% followed by the Christians.
