Uttarakhand News: A bad news has come from the high mountains of Uttarakhand. A group of trekkers who went for trekking at an altitude of 14 thousand feet in Uttarkashi district is stuck there due to bad weather. 4 female trekkers of this group of 20 trekkers who left for Sahastratal on 3 june are reported to have died due to hypothermia. Seven trekkers and 3 local guides have somehow reached the base camp despite the bad weather, but their condition is also very bad and they are being treated. 9 trekkers are still stranded above, efforts have been started to rescue them. A team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been dispatched from dehradun by helicopter to rescue them.

The group had left from Kokhli Top Base Camp

According to the information received so far, a group of 1 trekker from maharashtra and 18 trekkers from karnataka had come to Uttarkashi to trek to Sahastra Tal. This group was trekking through Garhwal Mountaineering and Trekking Agency. Sahastra Tal is located at an altitude of about 14,500 feet on the data-border of Uttarkashi-Tehri districts and is considered a favorite place for trekkers. Along with these 19 trekkers, 3 local guides were also included in the group.

Trekking started on 29 May

This trekking group started trekking from Malla-Silla via Kush Kulyan Bugyal on 29 May. This group reached Kokhali Top Base Camp on 2 june and from there left for Sahastratal on 3 June. After reaching the top on 3 june, the weather suddenly turned bad. Due to dense fog and snowfall, the trekkers had to stay there. Due to spending the whole night in the cold, the health of 13 trekkers of the group deteriorated, out of which 4 female trekkers died due to hypothermia. The remaining 9 trekkers were put in a tent there and made to sleep in sleeping bags.

9 people have returned to the base camp, then the information was received

Despite the bad weather, a total of 9 people including members of the trekkers group and 3 local guides returned to the base camp to bring help. Their condition also deteriorated upon reaching the base camp. A guide from the base camp had gone back on the morning of june 4 with food and water for the trekkers stranded above, but after this his communication with everyone was cut off. Due to this, no information about the health of anyone is available.

The district administration became active on the information of the trekking association

The information about the trekkers group being stranded was received by the tracking association through the agency taking them, which informed the Uttarkasi district administration about it. After this, preparations for the rescue operation have been started. Immediately, SDRF help was given by informing dehradun, after which the rescue team has been sent to Uttarkashi in a helicopter from Sahastradhara helipad in Dehradun.
