Delhi High Court: The delhi high court has granted bail to Sharjeel Imam, a former JNU student and one of the main organisers of the Shaheen-Bagh protest and riots in 2020.

Sharjeel Imam gets bail: delhi 2020 riots accused and activist Sharjeel Imam has been granted bail by the delhi High Court. The high court pronounced this decision on Wednesday. Sharjeel Imam was facing a case of giving inflammatory speeches, illegal activities and treason in the delhi 2020 riots. Sharjeel Imam has been granted bail after almost four and a half years.

Sharjeel has served almost half the sentence

Accused Sharjeel Imam has already served half the sentence for the charges against him. Earlier, the accused had knocked the door of Delhi's Karkardooma court in february for Jamatan. Then the court refused to grant Sharjeel Imam statutory bail. After this Sharjeel (Sharjeel Imam) knocked the door of the high court (Delhi High Court).

These charges were leveled against Sharjeel Imam

Accused Sharjeel Imam was arrested from Jehanabad, bihar in 2020. Sharjeel Imam, a former JNU student and the main organiser of the shaheen bagh protests, was also booked in a court in Uttar Pradesh. Sharjeel is accused of allegedly giving inflammatory and controversial speeches at Jamia Millia Islamia on 13 december 2019 and at aligarh Muslim university on 16 december 2019.

That's why Sharjeel Imam got bail

A division bench of Justice suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Manoj Jain has given the decision on bail in the Sharjeel Imam case. The court has said that if the accused has served half or more than half of his sentence, then in this situation he can be granted bail as per section 436-A of the CrPC.
