Hindi cinema's veteran filmmaker BR Chopra employed his brother to work with him. yash chopra learned the skills of direction from his elder brother BR Chopra and directed his first film 'Dhool Ka Phool' in 1959. Its production was handled by BR Chopra but gradually yash chopra made a name for himself with his talent. By the year 1970, he started his own production house Yash raj Films. The first film under the Yash raj Films banner was Daag: The Poem of love (1973). After this, this banner made superhit films like 'Deewar' and 'Trishul'. Yash raj Films reached the pinnacle of success in a short time but in the 80's, flop films like 'Silsila', 'Faasle', 'Vijay' and 'Sawaal' made the company suffer. Then yash chopra took a risk and made a film which proved to be a blockbuster.

'Chandni' saved the sinking ship of Yash raj Films

According to media reports, yash chopra was very upset due to back to back flop films. He was in debt and wanted to make a good film, but he did not know what to do. yash chopra believed in making romantic films which would give people peace and happiness. But the most action-packed films came in the 70's and 80's. In an interview, yash chopra had mentioned that he was waiting for a good story, then writer Kamna Chandra narrated the story of a film which appealed to yash Chopra's heart.

According to reports, after hearing the story, yash chopra was happy and named it 'Chandni'. Now he needed an actress and for this he talked to the top actresses of that era, Rekha, juhi chawla and madhuri Dixit. yash Chopra's previous films were flops so no one said yes and then someone suggested Sridevi's name to him. He called sridevi and the actress said yes. The film Chadni, directed by yash chopra, was released in the year 1989 in which the lead actress was sridevi, while rishi kapoor was seen as the lead actor. Vinod Chopra had a supporting role and juhi chawla did a cameo. The film proved to be a blockbuster at the box office.
