Lok Sabha Polls Phase 5 Voting Begins - All eyes on Amethi, Raebareli
695 individuals are running for 49 seats, including 82 women. Concerned about the poor turnout in the previous four rounds, the election commission of india (ECI) has urged electors to vote in larger numbers. The high-pitched campaign for the fifth round of the lok sabha elections included a heated exchange of insults between the ruling bjp and the opposition-led india alliance.
Prime minister Narendra Modi's remark that the congress will "run a bulldozer over the ram temple in Ayodhya" aroused outrage, causing the party to move the election Commission. PM Modi and other bjp officials also claimed that if elected, congress will devote 15% of the budget to Muslims, something the opposition party categorically denied.
Over 8.95 crore people, including 4.26 crore females and 5,409 third-gender electors, are eligible to vote in this round. To facilitate the process, 9.47 lakh polling officials have been deployed across 94,732 polling stations across the country.
