Growing unemployment among young people?

The nation has declared the dates of the loksabha elections. The opposition is attempting to elevate unemployment to the top political concern in this election. Early in the election season, the Institute of Human Development (IHD) and the international Labor Organization (ILO) released data on the employment status of the nation's youth. The data revealed that 83% of the country's youth workforce is unemployed. According to this report, the proportion of young people without jobs who have completed intermediate or higher secondary school has nearly doubled from 35.2 percent in 2000 to 65.7 percent in 2022. The indian unemployment situation has been deemed extremely bad by the ILO.

Youth with education have higher unemployment rates.

The ILO published a report titled "India Employment Report 2024," which stated that the high unemployment rate among young people with higher education is caused by a dearth of high-quality employment alternatives. According to the survey, young people who are pursuing higher education are not prepared for the low-wage, unstable occupations that are currently in demand. Instead, they are prepared to hold off on looking for work until better chances present themselves. According to the report, young people with education were most conspicuously unemployed during the Corona pandemic. Aside from this, the workers' salaries in the dob market have either declined or stayed the same. The report states that since 2019, normal workers' or young people's self-employed wages have fallen.
