Did farmers' income improve or decrease?

In february 2016, prime minister Modi made a pledge to quadruple farmer income by 2022, when india will have celebrated 75 years of independence. Nevertheless, the administration was unable to deliver on this pledge. The income of farmers increased by just 59% between 2012–13 and 2018–19, according to government figures. According to the government, numerous efforts have been made to double farmers' incomes. Farmers' monthly average income rose from Rs 6426 in 2012–13 to Rs 10,218 in 2018–19. The administration has not released a report since then.

According to the government, Meghalayan farmers get the highest wages in the nation. Here, the farmer makes Rs 29,348 a month. Following this are punjab and Haryana, where farmers earn, respectively, Rs 26,702 and Rs 22,841 a month. On the other hand, there is a farmer shortage in four states. Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Nagaland are these states.

In a statement, Agriculture minister Arjun Munda announced that the government has multiplied its spending on farmers' welfare in 2022–2023. It cost around Rs 6.5 lakh crore. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare's budget also grew, going from Rs 27,662 crore in 2013–14 to Rs 125,035 crore in 2023–24.
