Manoj wanted to become an actor since childhood

Manoj Bajpayee was born on 23 april 1969 in Belwa village of West Champaran, Bihar. His father was a farmer. Manoj aspired to become an actor since childhood. His parents named him after yesteryear superstar Manoj Kumar. In a conversation with Humans of Bombay, Manoj had said that he started dreaming of becoming an actor at the age of nine. He had said, “I am the son of a farmer, I grew up in a village in bihar with 5 brothers and sisters. We studied in a hut school. We lived a simple life, but whenever we went to town, we went to the theatre. I was a fan of Bachchan and wanted to be like him. At the age of 9, I knew that acting was my destiny."

Tried suicide after being rejected in NSD

Manoj studied till 12th in bihar and came to delhi at the age of 17 to fulfill his dream of becoming an actor. Here he tried to be admitted to the National school of Drama thrice but failed all three times. After this, he became so depressed that he even tried to commit suicide. However, his friends pulled him out of his bad phase.

Manoj had said about this, "I was an outsider, trying to fit in. So, I taught myself english and hindi - Bhojpuri was a big part of the way I spoke. Then I applied to NSD. , but was rejected three times. I was close to suicide, so my friends would sleep next to me and not leave me alone until I was accepted."
