What's Next For Deadpool? Will Deadpool & Wolverine 2 Happen?

Before Deadpool & Wolverine came out, one of the most anticipated events was the official MCU welcoming Deadpool. Now that he's in, the issue is whether he'll be back. The well-known character Deadpool first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1991. Since then, the character has developed from a one-off antagonist to a beloved anti-hero who is well-known outside of comic books.

The character made his big screen debut in 2009 as Wade Wilson, his alter ego, portrayed by the talented Ryan Reynolds, who developed a bond with the comic book character. Though there were several obvious problems with this original version—such as the character who gained renown from his smart crack remarks having his mouth stitched shut—Reynolds was given another chance to do Deadpool right a few years later. Deadpool stayed in the Fox X-Men world after starring in his own film in 2016 until Fox was acquired by Disney in 2019.

Currently starring in an MCU film are Deadpool and Wolverine, respectively, played by the actors who most likely became the iconic representations of these heroes. Hugh Jackman and Reynolds go off on a journey together that takes them into the Sacred Timeline following years of public uproar and expectation. It's equally possible, though, that after all that time and work, their first appearance together will be their last time dressed up.

Deadpool & Wolverine is essentially an introduction to the mutants and a means of tying the MCU and the Fox X-Men universe together. However, Jackman is already in his mid-50s, while Reynolds is quickly nearing 50. Even while the heroes collaborated with characters like chris Evans' Captain America and Robert Downey Jr.'s iron Man, the MCU is starting to look to younger actors to set the example. In light of this, a sequel starring Reynolds and Jackman might not be necessary.
