M. K. Stalin has written to prime minister
Narendra Modi requesting approval and financial assistance from the Union government for the
third phase of the Hogenakkal Combined Drinking Water Project.
Request for Central Approval
In his letter, the chief minister urged the prime minister to grant the necessary approval and provide financial support for the expansion of the project. The scheme aims to strengthen drinking water supply infrastructure and ensure that people in rural areas receive
adequate and reliable drinking water.
About the Hogenakkal Combined Drinking Water Project
The project sources water from
Hogenakkal Falls, located on the
Cauvery River. It was designed to supply treated drinking water to several districts facing water scarcity.The new phase of the project is expected to expand the distribution network and improve water availability in additional rural and urban areas.
Alignment with Jal jeevan Mission
The chief minister also pointed out that the project is in line with the goals of the
Jal jeevan Mission, a flagship initiative of the central government aimed at providing
functional household tap connections to every rural household in India.By supporting the project under this mission, the Union government can help ensure safe and sustainable drinking water supply to thousands of families in tamil Nadu.
