According to sources the Manipur government lifted the ban on internet services on monday citing the improving law and order situation in the state following the recent flare-up in ethnic violence. The order cautioned all internet users to refrain from any activities that may threaten the law and order situation, warranting temporary suspension of the internet in the future

Meanwhile “The state government after reviewing the prevailing law and order situation and its possible correlation with the general operation of internet services, decided to lift all forms of temporary suspension of internet and data services,” read the order issued by the state home commissioner. The order cautioned all internet users to refrain from any activities that may threaten the law and order situation, warranting temporary suspension of the internet in the future.

Previously on november 16, the government banned internet services, including broadband services, as violence escalated in Imphal after the bodies of six Meitei civilians from Jiribam, including three children and women, abducted by Kuki militants were recovered. The Imphal Valley erupted in protest and mobs went on a rampage attacking the homes of MLAs and ministers and setting other properties on fire. While the ban on the internet was initially imposed for two days, it was extended from time to time.
