The low cost and relatively high return on investment (ROI) of horror films are making them quite profitable for the makers. Because of their wide appeal to a wide range of viewers and capacity to elicit strong emotions, they have grown in popularity among filmmakers. This reasoning is further supported by the fact that, despite having small budgets, great horror films like Paranormal Activity (2007) and The Blair Witch Project (1999) were able to gross over $200 million worldwide because to the thrill that the audience experienced in the theaters.

Despite having relatively modest budgets, movies like stree 2 and Munjya have crossed the 600 Cr. and 100 Cr. milestones, respectively, suggesting that the indian film industry has also noticed this trend. Because of the enormous success they were able to attain, the low-budget works of "The Ramsay Brothers" also spring to mind.
The Bhatt family even profited from the horror train by creating successful films like Haunted 3D (2011) and Raaz (2002). "Shaitaan," starring ajay Devgn, was also a huge smash and ended up becoming the sixth highest-grossing indian movie of 2024. Due of their high ROI, horror films appear to be filling the void left by Bollywood's iconic urban dramas moving to over-the-top (OTT) platforms. Horror movies are a major force in both domestic and international box offices because of its capacity to attract younger viewers and provide consistent results.
