Telangana gig workers ask Zomato - Will ‘only veg’ drivers be allowed in ‘pure veg fleet’

SIBY JEYYA
The telangana Gig and Platform workers Union (TGPWU) founder-president Shaik Salauddin questioned zomato, an online food delivery service, about their intention to launch a "Pure Veg Fleet" on Tuesday. A 'Pure Veg Mode' and 'Pure Veg Fleet' on the zomato app, announced by zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal, have sparked worries about delivery personnel potentially being excluded due to their dietary choices.

“If zomato has today launched a “Pure Veg Fleet” in response to customer feedback and requirements, then will zomato in the future also take customer feedback about who can deliver their food and who cannot? Will it filter our delivery brothers and sisters by caste, community, and religion? We would like to remind zomato that in the past when a customer complained about “having to accept food from a Muslim delivery worker, zomato stood by the worker and stated, “Food does not have a religion. It is a religion.” zomato CEO Deepinder ji also asserted “We are proud of the idea of india and the diversity of our esteemed customers and partners. We aren’t sorry to lose any business that comes in the way of our values,” the TGPWU president asked Goyal, in a press release.

Zomato rolls back green uniform

Taking criticism on his choice to introduce a "pure veg mode," Deepinder Goyal, co-founder and CEO of zomato, announced on wednesday that the firm has chosen to do away with the practice of segregating its rider fleet using the color green on the ground.
Previously, cyclists in "pure veg mode" were only allowed to wear green uniforms—not the red ones from Zomato.
"We have decided to discontinue the on-ground segregation of this fleet using the color green, even though we will still maintain a fleet for vegetarians. Goyal shared on X that "all of our riders—both our regular fleet and our fleet for vegetarians—will wear the color red."

This implies that the fleet designated for vegetarian orders won't be easily recognized from the ground (although it will indicate on the app that the veg-only fleet will fulfill your veg orders).

This will guarantee that, on any special days, our red uniform delivery partners are not mistakenly linked to non-vegetarian cuisine and are not barred by any RWAs or societies. Our top priority is ensuring the physical safety of our passengers," the CEO of the business stated.

Goyal had earlier in the day introduced on his platform the "Pure Veg Mode" and the "Pure Veg Fleet" for users who follow a strictly vegetarian diet.

According to him, neither religion nor political choice is "served or alienated" by the new manner or fleet.

His choice received backlash on social media from a variety of sources.

Nonetheless, Goyal acknowledged that "so many people have responded so positively to this launch."

Young individuals who consume non-vegetarian meals frequently said, "Now my parents can also use Zomato."

"Let me reiterate that this function caters solely to dietary preferences. The CEO of zomato emphadata-sized, "And I know there are a lot of clients who would never order food from a restaurant which offers meat, regardless of their religion or caste.
