The telangana police closed its investigation into the death of university of hyderabad PhD student Rohith Vemula by filing a closure report. Vemula passed away in january of 2016.

Vemula identified as a scheduled caste member, and the police inquiry indicates that his fear of his real caste being revealed was the driving force for his suicide. In 2015, allegations of aiding suicide surdata-faced when Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya wrote to the Ministry of Human Resource Development over "casteist, extremist, and anti-national politics" at the university.

Former vice chancellor of hyderabad university Appa Rao and leaders of the bharatiya janata party (BJP), including mp Bandaru Dattatreya of secunderabad at the time, Union minister Smriti Irani, former MLC N Ramachander Rao, and ABVP officials, are cleared in the report.

Subsequently, allegations of aiding suicide surdata-faced after union minister Bandaru Dattatreya wrote to the ministry of human resource development concerning "casteist, extremist, and anti-national politics" at the university.

According to the police report filed with the court, Rohith Vemula knew that he was not a member of the scheduled caste (SC) group and that his mother had obtained a sc certificate for him. This may be one of his ongoing concerns since, according to the story, if it were discovered, he would lose the degrees he had collected over the years and would have to go to court.

The study also said that Vemula had a number of problems that could have contributed to his suicide.

According to the police, there was insufficient evidence to prove that the accused's activities were the reason Vemula committed suicide.

Raja, Vemula's brother, referred to the police allegations as "wrong" and stated that they will approach telangana chief minister revanth reddy for assistance.

"Determining a person's caste by a police officer is completely incorrect. On Saturday, we will meet with revanth reddy, the chief minister of Telangana. In addition to pursuing alternative possibilities, we will submit a protest petition," raja Vemula declared.
