Telangana - Looking to launch free power scheme

A team from the telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited paid a visit to the Bangalore electricity Supply Company Limited office in Bengaluru today, according to authorities. telangana authorities went to the BESCOM office to learn more about the Gruha jyothi scheme's execution.
The telangana squad was led by telangana IAS officer musharraf Faruqi. "They held a discussion with BESCOM MD Mahatesh Bilagi and director Finance Dharshan J and Information technology and Revenue section officials to take inputs about the Gruha jyothi scheme to implement a similar free power scheme in the telangana state," says a government official.
Under the Gruha jyothi initiative, the karnataka government provides free power for up to 200 units per month to all residential homes in the state. Free power for up to 200 units was one of the Congress' electoral pledges ahead of the 2023 state assembly election. The initiative is projected to cost the government around Rs 13,910 crore each year.
