On Thursday, telangana and andhra pradesh agreed in principle to take over control of the srisailam and nagarjuna sagar dams to the krishna river Control Board (KRMB). C muralidhar, telangana Irrigation Engineer-in-Chief, and Narayana reddy, andhra pradesh Engineer-in-Chief, announced during the KRMB meeting on Thursday.
Narayana reddy stated that the conference resolved to give over six telangana outlets and nine andhra pradesh outlets to the KRMB. He informed journalists that telangana had some inhibitions, which were cleared at the discussion. muralidhar stated that both projects will fall within the authority of the KRMB. He explained that the nagarjuna sagar project had not been totally turned off, and that the KRMB would only be responsible for its operation and water control.
The KRMB meeting was attended by the chairman and irrigation authorities of both telugu states, as well as the Union Ministry of Water Resources. muralidhar stated that the subject of water allocation has been delegated to a three-member committee, although the KRMB would oversee project operations. Both states agreed to allocate workers for project management.
He indicated that the three-member committee would decide on the amount and timetable of water releases, while the KRMB will carry those choices out on the field. The Board will supervise both projects' head outlets. He anticipated that the new arrangements would prevent tensions between the two states. This year, telangana intends to draw 20 TMC, but the amount will now be determined by a three-member committee.
"If the committee decides the quantum at 15 TMC or 22 TMC, the same will be implemented by the Board through us," he went on to say. The telangana Engineer-in-Chief emphasised that Telangana's position on receiving a 50% share of krishna river waters remains unchanged. He stated that the state had submitted its demands in writing to the Centre and was awaiting a response. muralidhar stated that there was no debate on the management of power plants. It should be noted that there was tension between the two states at nagarjuna sagar dam on november 30 when andhra pradesh officials forcefully delivered water to andhra pradesh through open gates.
