Following an overnight drone assault on a US base in northeast jordan near the Syrian data-border that killed three American soldiers and injured scores more, US President Joe Biden pledged to respond to the first lethal strike against US forces since the Israel-Hamas war began in October. Meanwhile, Republican Senators attacked the Biden administration and demanded an immediate, more aggressive military action.
"One final thing, I'd want to stress you that we had a terrible day. Last night, we lost three gallant men in an attack on one of our bases. And I beg for a minute of quiet. "And we will respond," he vowed during an election campaign speech in South Carolina.
In a statement, Biden blamed the attack on Iran-backed forces, saying the US "will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner (of) our choosing."
Following the incident, Republican Senators lambasted the Biden administration and advocated for a harder military reaction against iran, claiming that the US's policy of air strikes against Iranian proxy organisations had thus far failed.
While Joe Biden committed to respond to the attack, Republican Senators argued that the US administration's policy of air attacks against Iranian proxy organisations in the Middle east had thus far failed, and they advocated for stronger military action. senator Lindsey Graham claimed Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin "failed miserably" in deterring violence against US personnel in the region. "Hit iran immediately. "Hit them hard," the senator stated. Another senator, Tim Scott, stated that the "appeasement of iran must end." It's time to take clear and definite action."
