The crew behind the english subtitles for the malayalam movie Thallumala said that what was uploaded was a "significantly modified, watered-down, mutilated version" of the subtitles a day after the film's premiere on the streaming service Netflix. The film, starring tovino thomas and kalyani Priyadarshan, became a tremendous smash after it hit theatres last month. The action comedy movie, which is directed by Khalid Rahman, was written by Muhsin Parari and Ashraf Hamza.
Anju and shyam Narayanan TK of the Fill in the Blanks Subtitle Artists voiced their annoyance at having their comments modified without their knowledge or permission on social media after the OTT release. The subtitle creators noted that they are "very upset" by what was ultimately published, despite the fact that Muhsin Parari evaluated and approved the english subtitles supplied to the Netflix team "line-by-line."
There are a few details that we left out of the subtitles. particularly the music! The subtitles of the songs have been severely toned down to their plain meanings and rendered soulless. Being a creative endeavour, subtitles must take into account the idioms, humour, implications, and regional specificities of both the source and target languages. Additionally, we believe that editing the subtitles without the author, writer, or director's permission is unfair and immoral. The note from the subtitle artists asks Netflix and other OTT companies to refrain from doing this. The note was distributed by Muhsin Parari.
