Women activists stopped from entering Shani Shingnapur temple complex

SIBY JEYYA
The Bombay High Court itself ordered that women can enter inside any temple. As the verdict came in favour of women, Women activists of Bhumata Ranragini Brigade led by Trupti Desai tried to enter Shani Shingnapur temple complex in Ahmednagar.

In this temple complex, there has been a tradition of banning women from entering Shrine's sacred platform. Despite court orders, temple authorities never allowed them to enter the Shrine's sacred platform. Regarding this Trupti Desai said, "We are not going to turn around this time.

If necessary, we will even file FIR against Chief Minister and Home minister. After the high court gave order in women's favour, we are determined to reach sacred Chauthara of the temple. Even police never restricted the route."

This shrine is dedicated to Lord Shani and this Lord glorifies the planet Saturn. Women devotees are not allowed as per tradition followed at the Shrine which has no walls or a roof. A five-foot-high black stone stands on a sacred platform (prohibited area) and is worshipped as Lord Shani.
