In his resignation letter to Murmu, Dhankhar said that he is leaving the post with immediate effect to "give priority to health care". Dhankhar said in a letter to the President, 'In order to give priority to health care and follow medical advice, I am resigning from the post of Vice President of india with immediate effect, as per Article 67 (A) of the Constitution.
Jagdeep Dhankhar made headlines due to his outspoken attitude and controversies, but he was most discussed when he was the governor of West Bengal. During that period, there was a demand to remove him many times regarding his behavior, which was much before the impeachment motion brought by the opposition in the rajya sabha in december last year.
In december 2020, five trinamool congress (TMC) MPs submitted a memorandum to the then President ram Nath Kovind, demanding the removal of governor jagdeep Dhankhar from the post. The MPs accused him of working on the orders of "political masters sitting in Delhi" and pursuing a specific political agenda by targeting the state government.
