Sanjay Singh raised the issue of acid attack victims?
Senior aam aadmi party leader and mp Sanjay Singh has demanded the central government to take several initiatives regarding the rehabilitation of acid attack victims. During the discussion in rajya sabha on Wednesday, he said that the central government should create fast track courts to provide immediate justice to acid attack victims. These people die every day in their lives and they have to wander for 20-20 years to get justice. He demanded that the government should arrange for free treatment of acid attack victims and the compensation should be increased to Rs 50 lakh. Also, CSR fund should be earmarked for their welfare and employment and a central committee should be formed to review acid attack cases.
Sanjay Singh said in rajya sabha regarding the rehabilitation of acid victims that NCRB data shows that since 2014, about 200 women are victims of acid attack every year. About 80 percent of them are women, of which 30 percent are minor girls. I got a chance to know their pain through Brave Soul Foundation. This organization works in Delhi. I went to one of its programs. Tears will come to my eyes just by looking at the girls living there.
Sanjay Singh said that it takes a long time for acid victims to get justice. There is a woman named shaheen Malik there. She has been wandering for justice for 16 years. She did not get justice. Her whole data-face got disfigured, she has lost one eye. There were two 14 year old girls named Anupama and Mohita from Siwan.
They were attacked with acid. Even if they got justice, it was 20 years later, when they had died. In this regard, the supreme court issued an order on april 10, 2015, saying that whether it is a private or a government hospital, the treatment of acid victims should be completely free in both places. I request the government to make arrangements for their free treatment. They get only five lakh rupees in the name of compensation. Arrangements should be made to provide at least Rs 50 lakh for their treatment.
