Will Bangladesh crave for sweets as India gives sugar to Bangladesh?

Sudha Subbiah

Reportedly the sourness in the relations between india and bangladesh has started increasing now. On the one hand, the interim government of bangladesh canceled the previously approved Bandwidth Transit Agreement. On the other hand, it is considering other sources other than india for the import of potatoes and onions. If the situation between india and bangladesh continues to deteriorate like this and india stops exporting some things to bangladesh, then many things will disappear from the plate of people in Bangladesh.

Perhaps if the situation between india and bangladesh becomes so bad in the future that import and export between the two countries stops, then it will have the biggest impact on wheat. Actually, bangladesh imports a lot of wheat from india every year. Talking about the year 2021-22, the value of wheat exported from india to bangladesh this year was $ 119.16 crore. At the same time, this figure of wheat export in 2020-21 was $ 31.03 crore. That is, if india stops giving wheat to bangladesh, then roti will disappear from the plate of the people there.

Moreover apart from wheat, the people of bangladesh will also crave for rice. Actually, rice is the third most exported thing from india to Bangladesh. In the year 2021-22, a total of 613.9 million dollars worth of rice was exported to Bangladesh. That is, if the situation between india and bangladesh worsens, then it will also affect the rice present in the plate of the people there. Like wheat and rice, india also gives sugar to Bangladesh. Let us tell you, in the year 2021-22, sugar worth about 565.9 million dollars was exported from india to Bangladesh. At the same time, in 2020-21, this figure was 74.7 million dollars. It is clear from this that if india stops sending sugar to bangladesh, then the people there will not get sweets. Along with this, they will have to drink bland milk. Apart from this, fruits, vegetables, spices, cotton, oil meals and other processed items are also exported from india to Bangladesh.
