The situation of tension remained on sunday (8 december 2024) at Shambhu data-border of Punjab-Haryana. The farmers marched towards delhi on foot at 12 noon, but haryana police stopped them on the bridge. There was a lot of debate between the farmers and the police there at first and then the clash started.

Tear gas shells fired to disperse the crowd

The police fired tear gas shells at the farmers to stop them, in which many farmers were injured. Due to the firing of tear gas shells, the farmers had to retreat a few meters. Some of these farmers had covered their data-faces and some were wearing glasses. Some farmers were seen avoiding tear gas shells with wet jute sacks.

After reaching the barricades, water jets were also used to disperse them. After this, the farmers participating in the delhi Chalo march postponed their protest for a day. Farmer leaders said that it has been decided to stop the march for the treatment of the injured. The farmer leader alleged that just two minutes after the rain of flower petals, the police fired shells, due to which the innocent farmers were trapped and attacked.

Amid the delhi Chalo march, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher announced the withdrawal of the group at Shambhu data-border. Pandher said, "Today we have decided to call back the farmers. One farmer has been admitted to PGI in critical condition, while 8-9 others are injured. Further strategy will be decided after the meeting of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha."

Appealed to maintain peace - Police

DSP Shahabad ramkumar said, "The police team has been deployed since morning.
