Information about his wife's 2022 police complaint alleging harassment and violence for dowry has surdata-faced amid national indignation over the suicide of a techie from Bengaluru. Nikita Singhania said that Atul Subhash began treating the husband-wife relationship "like a beast" and would beat her up in the april 24, 2022, case filed in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, according to PTI.

Nikita had named her husband, his parents, and brothers-in-law as suspects in her case. The Dowry Prohibition Act's provisions were then used to file a formal complaint. In 2019, Nikita, a Jaunpur native, married Subhash, a bihar native. They used to work and reside in Bengaluru.

According to Nikita's complaint, Subhash and her in-laws requested Rs 10 lakh after her marriage since they weren't happy with what her parents had given them. Her in-laws began tormenting her "physically and mentally" in order to get a dowry, she claimed. Nikita's lawsuit also stated that her parents told her to "listen and keep living with it" even though she had told them about her experience. She said that things did not get better and that her husband began beating and threatening her.

"After consuming alcohol, my spouse began to treat me like a beast and began beating me up. In the lawsuit, Nikita said, "He used to threaten me and move my entire salary from my account to his account."

She further said that her father's health declined as a result of the frequent abuse by her in-laws, and he passed away on august 17, 2019, after suffering a stroke.

Subhash, who claimed to have been harassed by his wife and her family, committed suicide on monday while working for a private company in Bengaluru. He left behind a 24-page suicide note that described his emotional turmoil due to marital problems and many lawsuits his wife had brought against him.

Nikita and her family members have been charged with abetment of suicide.

Subhash stated in his suicide note that Nikita's assertion that her father died of shock after his family sought a Rs 10 lakh dowry was untrue. He said that a cardiac condition killed Nikita's father.
