Legal experts from across the country gathered in Bihar
The two-day national conference concluded yesterday at the bihar Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (BIPARD) in Gaya. Leading jurists, legal experts and senior administrators from across the country gathered in this conference. Chief Justice K. Vinod Chandran on this occasion emphadata-sized the importance of collective participation in improving the use of transformative laws and resolving challenges.
He expressed confidence that the two-day discussion, enriched by the presence of judges, legal experts, academicians and senior officials, will provide useful information for the effective implementation of new criminal laws. The conference was attended by Vice Chancellors of leading National Law Universities, Vice Chancellors of Directors General of Police, home Secretaries of various States and Union Territories, district Judges, and other judicial personalities from across the country. With representatives from 26 states and union territories, especially the notable representation of the Northeast region, the event was given a true national character.

The main focus of the conference was to evaluate the implementation and initial impact of the three transformative laws - BNSS, BNS and BSA, effective from 1 July 2024. Emphasis was laid on understanding the contribution of these laws in accelerating the justice system and reshaping the criminal justice structure. Six technical sessions were held in the conference, which were chaired by Hon'ble Judges of High Courts and conducted by Vice Chancellors of leading law universities.
Challenges of implementation of new law were mentioned
district Judges, Additional district Judges and senior IPS officers highlighted the challenges, experiences and learnings arising during the first 120 days of implementation of these laws. These technical sessions discussed procedural and operational challenges under BNS, BNSS and BSA, including issues such as cognizance, proclaimed offenders, judicial process in absentia, and witness protection.
