Is AIMIM helping BJP by cutting votes?

In the maharashtra Assembly elections, Asaduddin Owaisi's party AIMIM had offered an alliance to congress and Sharad Pawar's ncp, but did not get any positive response, while these opposition parties of maharashtra allege that AIMIM is a vote-cutting party and ultimately it helps BJP. However, the election figures point to something else.

If we look at the election figures of AIMIM, in 2019 it contested 44 seats and won only two seats, Malegaon and Dhule. It stood second in aurangabad Central, aurangabad East, Byculla and Solapur City Central, while its influence was seen in 13 other seats. Out of these 13, BJP-Shiv Sena won seven seats and congress-ncp won six seats. AIMIM's vote share was only 1.34 percent.

When Muslim leaders won from aurangabad Central

The victory figure was the same in 2014 as well. It got two seats, but then the vote share was less than one percent. According to the indian Express report, that election had an unexpected result and this was the first time AIMIM won two seats. Journalist-turned-politician Imtiaz jaleel won the election and then he was also elected in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In this way he became the first Muslim representative to represent aurangabad Central.

Which way did the Muslim voters shift?

However, Imtiaz jaleel lost the aurangabad Lok Sabha seat in 2024 by a margin of over 1.30 lakh votes, raising questions about AIMIM's penetration among Muslim voters. It seems that Muslim voters have inclined towards the party that opposes the bjp more effectively.
