Kharge On 'Unified Pension Scheme'
The opposition parties, which had opposed the scheme at that time, brought back the old pension scheme in the states ruled by them and scrapped the new pension system. government employees in the BJP-ruled states were also making similar demands. This put pressure on the central government.
However, the Finance Ministry had categorically stated that no proposal to bring back the old pension system is under consideration. In april last year, Finance Secretary D. Radhakrishnan approved a review of the new pension scheme for government employees. The committee was headed by Finance minister V. Nirmala Sitharaman. Based on the findings of the committee, the Union cabinet headed by prime minister Narendra Modi has approved the introduction of the Integrated Pension Scheme UPS.
Congress leader mallikarjun Kharge wrote on his X page, "The U in UPS stands for the Modi government's U-turns. After june 4 (Lok Sabha elections), people’s power has prevailed over the arrogance of the Prime Minister.
He also lists projects that the Modi government has recently backtracked.
