'The one who guarantees a roof over everyone's head is sitting on a borrowed chair...' mallikarjun Kharge attacks PM Modi

Congress President mallikarjun Kharge on tuesday targeted prime minister Narendra Modi. He said that after 'Modi's guarantee' of a roof over everyone's head by 2022 proved to be hollow, now the talk of 3 crore houses is being done. In fact, in the first cabinet meeting chaired by PM Modi on Monday, approval was given to build three crore new houses. These houses will be built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Mallikarjun Kharge posted on the social media platform X, 'The country responded in such a way in the lok sabha elections that the Modi government has to manage its 'house' of power by borrowing chairs from the houses of others. On 17 July 2020, the prime minister had given the country 'Modi's guarantee' that every indian will have a roof over his head by 2022. This guarantee turned out to be hollow.'

No time limit has been set

The congress President said, 'Now the talk of giving three crore Pradhan Mantri Awas is being done as if the previous guarantee has been fulfilled. The country knows the reality that this time no time limit has been set for these three crore houses, because in the last 10 years, bjp has built 1.2 crore houses less than Congress-UPA.'

Kharge claimed that during the Congress-led UPA government, 4.5 crore houses were built between 2004-13, while only 3.3 crore government houses have been constructed in the last 10 years. He alleged that in Modi ji's housing scheme, most of the money for 49 lakh urban houses i.e. 60 percent houses was paid by the public from their own pockets.'

The government is burdening the public by giving only 1.5 lakhs

According to the congress leader, 'A government normal urban house is built for an average of Rs 6.5 lakh, in which the central government gives only Rs 1.5 lakh. States and municipalities also contribute 40 percent to this. The rest of the burden falls on the people. That too, about 60% of the burden. This is what the parliamentary committee has said.'

Kharge said, 'It has been revealed from the newspapers that Modi ji had adopted 8 villages in varanasi for development under the 'Sansad adarsh Gram Yojana', there the poor, especially the Dalits and the backward communities, have not yet got proper houses. Even if there are some houses, there is no water supply, there is not even a tap.' (With PTI input)
