The party that gandhiji nurtured is losing elections…?

Father of the Nation mahatma gandhi spent the first 20 years of his career in south africa, where he raised his voice against the discrimination against indians and made life difficult for the British. During this time, he also went to jail four times. The party that gandhiji founded in south africa is today seen losing the elections there. In the year 1894, gandhiji founded the Natal indian congress in South Africa. Later this party came to be known as the African National congress (ANC). After being in power in south africa for about 30 years, the reign of the African National congress party now seems to be coming to an end.

In south africa, any party needs at least 50 percent votes to form the government. This time ANC has got only 41.88 percent votes. It means that they have missed the government by 8.12 percent votes. Now the congress party of south africa cannot form the government on its own. In second place is the DA party, which has got 23.22 percent votes. The people of south africa gave 11.52 percent votes to MKP. On the same lines, people gave 9.49 percent votes to EFF. Now ANC will need the support of some other party to form the government.

Why did gandhiji establish congress in Africa?

Gandhiji practiced law in London. At that time Seth Abdullah had called gandhiji to south africa to fight his case. He was thrown out of the first class of the train. In Africa, he understood the problems of Indians. In 1894, he formed the Natal indian congress to get voting rights for indians in South Africa. Through this campaign, he was successful in uniting indians in South Africa.
