Amaravati Debacle: Chandrababu's Misstep?

The issue of Andhra Pradesh's capital has been marred by controversy and criticism, reflecting a lack of consensus and decisive action in the decision-making process. The selection of the capital post-partition has been fraught with errors and unilateral actions, leading to a situation where andhra pradesh struggles to provide a clear answer when asked about its capital.

Criticism has been directed towards Chandrababu's government for its failure to demonstrate statesmanship in the matter of the capital. The decision to choose amaravati as the capital, overriding the recommendations of expert committees and without broader consultation, has been contentious. Allegations of insider trading have further tainted the process, with accusations that decisions were made for political gain and prestige rather than the welfare of the state.

Despite five years in power, Chandrababu's government achieved little progress in developing amaravati beyond the construction of a few buildings. This lack of tangible results provided an opening for Jagan's administration to revisit the capital issue upon coming to power. However, Jagan's proposed solution of three new capitals, with amaravati losing its status as the sole capital, data-faced legal challenges and remained unresolved.

As a result, andhra pradesh finds itself in a situation where neither amaravati nor Visakhapatnam can definitively be called the capital. The uncertainty surrounding the capital issue persists, leaving it to the new government to navigate and hopefully resolve this longstanding problem.
