Now the contest for the Sangli lok sabha seat in maharashtra has become interesting. congress leader vishal Patil, grandson of former maharashtra Chief minister late Vasantdada Patil, will contest as an independent candidate from the Sangli lok sabha seat. congress leader vishal Patil, grandson of former maharashtra Chief minister late Vasantdada Patil, filed his nomination as an independent candidate here on monday (April 15).

According to a PTI report, vishal Patil wanted to contest elections from the Sangli lok sabha constituency on a congress ticket but as per the seat-sharing agreement, this seat went to uddhav Thackeray-led shiv sena (UBT).

Congress, a constituent of the maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in maharashtra, had claimed the Sangli seat in western maharashtra, but the constituency was allotted to shiv sena (UBT) as per the finalized seat-sharing formula. Recently, vishal Patil and congress MLA from Palus-Kadegaon in Sangli district Vishwajit Kadam met top leaders in New delhi and requested them to give Sangli seat in the sugar belt of the state to the state's oldest party. However, his efforts were not successful.

Uddhav thackeray led party shiv sena (UBT) refused to leave the Sangli seat. vishal Patil visited the district election office with his supporters on monday (April 15) and filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate. shiv sena (UBT) has fielded wrestler-turned-politician Chandrahar Patil. Voting will be held in Sangli along with 10 other lok sabha seats in maharashtra in the third phase on May 7. The last date for filing nomination papers for parliamentary seats going to polls in the third phase is april 19.
