521 heat-related illnesses have been reported in karnataka in the last three months, the state government said.

Karnataka has reported 521 cases of heat-related illnesses in the past three months, but heat stroke and related deaths have not been confirmed so far, the state health department said. This included 342 cases of skin allergy due to extreme heat, 121 cases of heat cramps, and 58 cases of heat exhaustion.

Speaking further, he said, “The two deaths were initially suspected to be related to heat stroke, but post-mortem reports ruled it out,” health and Family services Commissioner D Randeep. “One death occurred in Kalaburki due to cardiac tamponade and another in Bagalkot due to myocardial infarction. Therefore, it cannot be directly said that these deaths were due to heat stroke,” he said.

Hospitals and doctors across the state, especially those in northern districts, have been directed to closely monitor such heat-related illnesses (HRI) and report them on the Integrated health Information Portal (IHIP), he said.

He further said, “All district hospitals have been instructed to set up 5 beds for heat stroke management and to stock necessary medicines and medical equipment for the treatment of heat-related diseases. We have advised the doctors not to take any case lightly," he said.

Addressing concerns about the spread of cholera, Randeep urged people not to create panic by misreporting severe diarrheal diseases as confirmed cases of cholera. Talking about this, he said, "If a person needs to be tested for cholera, their stool should be tested. The results will not come immediately," he said. In the last 3 months, only 6 cases of cholera have been confirmed. A report by a doctor from a private hospital said that cases in the city have increased by 50% and 20-30 patients are coming every day. But when we checked the records of that hospital we did not find a single patient," he said.

He further said, “The health department will monitor the cases in Bengaluru and send an investigation team if the cases increase in an area. According to health department data, Bengaluru city has seen three cases, while Bengaluru urban district had two cases and one confirmed case of cholera in Ramanagara was detected in january this year.” He said.
